ONDA V919 3G Air DualOS - A Chinese Tablet Story

It comes when I was bored without any gadget to play, and luckily I was able to find such gadget reseller in Jakarta.

This tablet is very promising with these spec:
- Form Factor 99% iPad Air (Indonesian might say this is an iPad Air KW)
- Processor Intel Atom 64bit Quad Core Processor (Atom Z3736F)
- 2GB RAM and 64GB storage (extensible with MicroSD upto 128GB)
- 3G (WCDMA), Phone Call + SMS (Phone Call for Android)
- Dual OS: Windows 8.1 with Bing and Android 4.4.4
- Battery 7000mAh

Cons:
- No Stylus, No Port for external display
- Micro USB port don't give enough power to juice up external HDD
- SIM Card and MicroSD port plastic cover on the back is not well designed
- When used, charging is very very slow
- 03 Sept 2015: Wireless Display is not very good, there are flickering on the screen (tried different resolution)

I'm buying this tablet just for fun and want to get rid the Android, and this is how you do it.

Note: if you want to get Windows 10 Home for free, please do upgrade first.

Requirements:
- USB Port with at least 3 port for Keyboard, Mouse and Flash Disk
- 4GB USB Flash capable to be used as a boot device
- USB on The Go
- USB Keyboard
- USB Mouse
- Windows Image 8/8.1/10 ISO, Windows Product Key (or if you know to skip it with EI.CFG, just search the web)
- ONDA Driver: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/79440105/v919%203G%20Air%20DualOS_Win8.1_x86_Drivers.zip
- Extra PC/Notebook for USB installer (Let's call this Technical PC, Min Win7)
- Make sure you charged your Onda with at least 60%

The tools

STEP 1: Creating USB Installer
1. On Technical PC, open up Command Prompt run as Admin
2. Plug-In your USB Flash to the Technical PC
3. Run Disk Partition (DISKPART)
4. List out your disk (LIST DISK)
5. Select your USB Flash (SELECT DISK n), where n is the number of your flashdisk, example SELECT DISK 2
6. Delete all contents (CLEAN)
7. Create Primary Partition there (CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY)
8. Select that partition (SELECT PARTITION 1)
9. Activate that partition and set to be able to boot (ACTIVE)
10. Format (FORMAT FS=FAT32 LABEL="Windows" QUICK
11. Quit DISKPART (EXIT)
12. Copy all contents from Windows ISO to the USB Flash
13. You can also copy the ONDA driver (still fit on 4GB flash)

STEP 2: Start Clean Install Windows and Remove Android
1. Make sure your Onda tablet is power off
2. Connect everything as picture above
3. Turn On your Onda, and press Esc on the keyboard quickly

Select Boot Manager with your mouse, and select USB

STEP 3: Follow the picture below
1. Make sure you read the fine print

Delete all partition, more than 10 partition

STEP 4: Install the driver
1. Open Command Prompt, run as Admin
2. Execute Install.Bat
3. Make sure all driver installed

ONDA can also connect with Bluetooth Keyboard, mine is Microsoft Universal Mobile Keyboard. You can get it from Bhinneka or any other online store near you.

You can also put custom sticker to make ONDA much more sexier. This is using 3M leather sticker, with Windows Logo cut in the middle. Onda logo is covered.
