So many acronym in the IT world.

So  you are telling me that your company evolve to the modern age, now they allow you to use your own device hence we have BYOD (bring your own device).

It started nicely as it begins with just a couple of users using their own devices to access/store corporate information like email, documents, etc. Company is happy, they don't have to invest in asset for employee. But when the explosion of sales force and the employee are always mobile, the acronym start changing to BRING YOUR ORGANIZATION DOWN. The IT Department has a backlog of devices to support not to mention security.

IT start to left behind because of they have to make sure security was still in place, application is supported on multiple platform, etc etc. Now corporation start to think is BYOD still the answer for them? Well the answer is simple corporation should have EMM (Enterprise Mobility Management) don't just focus on MDM (Mobile Device Management). SAP release SAP Mobile Platform after they acquired Sybase by bundling Sybase Unwired Platform and Afaria.

So what is COPE? COPE stands for Corporate Owned, Personally Enabled. It's just a flavor of BYOD but the company has more control on the device, but with some relax to the employee to install their own application, private contacts like relatives and friends.

Does the company has to have different set of technology to enable COPE?
What about a combination of both COPE and BYOD?
